Positivity....please!!
- Helen (17th Jan 2021 22:13:58)
Please someone just share some good news or a positive story....people are turning on each other and canāt wait to shoot down a local business, someone out in the park, a food van, someone leaving their house more than once.
Iāll begin with the sweet male teenager who stopped and let me pass him today, (I was in my head negotiating a route to wide berth him plus avoid being hit by a what I thought at first was a Chelsea tractor but it was really muddy so most likely a genuine rural use vehicle and if not then Iām happy that someone is doing well enough in life that they can choose such a gorgeous beast to call their everyday car) we had eye contact and he even smiled and acknowledged my thank you. I felt good for a few moments, connection with another person.
Whilst trying to up the mood, how fantastic are our Sainsburyās staff right now, helpful, cheerful, wonderful!

Hereās something positive, just check out our local Covid cases at
[a]https://digital.nhs.uk/dashboards/coronavirus-in-your-area[t]digital.nhs.uk/dashboards/coronavirus-in-your-area[c]
by typing in a postcode and see how well Liphook is doing to control the rubbish disease (especially compared to Haslemere which seems to be rampant there).
Letās keep it going guys, the finish line is almost in sight!

Yes Keith Great news we must all stay vigilant. Prompted me to look at the Government website rules . Under travel section it says quote if you need to travel stay local avoiding traveling outside of your village town or part of city where you live. So looking at the stats for around here NO traveling to surrounding areas to do your weekly shopping especially HASLEMERE against all the RULES. Keep liphook safe. Plenty of food in our two local supermarkets.

Local - people who are shielding have no choice but to go further afield for their shopping as the Government advice is NOT to go into a supermarket so they rely on click and collect something which sainsbury liphook do not do. People who live alone who are shielding don't have someone at home to do it for them nor can you get a delivery slot due to demand.

Oh yes, of course. I remember when it was Coop FIRST time round. 1970"s, I'm sure there was a string above the tills with a money can. Then it became Wavyline.

A sorry you are having a problem with shopping but I think there are several groups in liphook that you could call on. I seem to remember a thread on this site about it a while back. I think the Parrish council would be a good place to start. Perhaps the editor could help to find it best of luck.

Re. strings overhead with a money can - good memory! This was the Lamson Rapid Wire System. It was installed in many Co-op stores and other outlets. It was eventually replaced with the Lamson Airtube System. A mock set-up of the airtube system can be seen in the film Sink the Bismarck with Kenneth More.
I worked at Lamsonās years ago when it had a factory in Willesden.
Arenāt you glad you mentioned it ! š¤Ŗš¤ Arenāt I glad my memory is so good...š

I remember the airtube system at Green shield Stamps in Aldershot. As a child I thought it really futuristic.

The company I work for bought out Lamson and BVC, in the 80's . Its now called Quirepace Ltd based in Fareham, we still make and install tube systems, for retail and hospitals to carry blood samples and such from one place to another. And make industrial vacuum cleaners.

Hello, Samantha. It's good to know this ingenious system is still in use (and probably giving people a bit of fun as well when they first use it). Personally I credit Isambard Kingdom Brunel for this as it could be considered a scaled down version of his atmospheric railway. All wonderful stuff.
