Thanks ,Fred..

Hi Fred
"Swish Voice
Switch your phone number to our Swish Voice service and ditch your monthly line rental charge. Crystal clear calls via your safe and reliable Full Fibre service."
But that doesn't explain what hardware you might need in your house, for instance, can a normal cordless phone be plugged into their router ?
Hopefully someone will know the answer.
The only drawback is that you can't make any calls (999 for instance) during a power cut at your property. But in reality if you only had cordless phones on a BT landline the same would apply as your phones base unit would have no power.

Hello
If you want to replicate your old copper phone you will need a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) provider. This could be Swish or another provider. Then you need a VOIP handset.

We will all soon lose the ability to make landline calls during a power cut. The infrastructure is being digitised and Ofcom now deems mobile phones an adequate backup in emergencies.

Looks like you can plug a 'normal' phone to the back of the router. See page 2 here

Whilst I'm not with Swish I've had fibre for a number of years now (no longer in Liphook) with both Vodafone and Sky and it's the same ie 'normal' phone into back of the router so that is my experience too.
Whilst no line rental do watch the call charges as these are extra.

Hi,
If you need to maintain internet access during a power cut, I recommend connecting your router to an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).
It will give you approximately 20-30 minutes of runtime, including Wi-Fi if the power goes off. It will also serve as a filter, protecting connected equipment against any spikes in supply.
