Lloyds Pharmacy
- Les (15th Mar 2023 11:12:34)
Lloyds seems to be selling off a lot of their stock. I hope they're not closing it, which seems to be happening to Lloyds in other places.
They're not perfect, but it's an important local resource and we'd be lost without it.

The private equity company that bought Lloyds last year is currently undertaking a review of all the estate. They are selling off most of the sites, so the local pharmacy will stay only if there is a private buyer. If not, then it will close.
There is no profit to be made in pharmacy anymore, as non-prescription items are cheaper online or in supermarkets. Like most high-street stores they are under threat from online shopping and lack of foot-fall.

I wouldn’t have thought footfall was a problem in Liphook - all the posts I’ve seen here our about Lloyds over the last few months have been about the number of people waiting in the pharmacy - the reason many have switched to online or to different pharmacies in the last year.

The Lloyds in Petworth has been bought by the Midhurst chemist.

I think it is more to do with the government not subsidising them enough for dispensing the prescriptions, which in an area where a high proportion of prescriptions would not be at a cost to the recipient, there is no money to be made by the pharmacy, who have a wages bill after all to pay.
