Refuse Collections
- Paul Robinson (22nd Mar 2023 20:25:23)
Once again a hand wringing apology from East Hants District Council regarding the failure of NORSE to collect my bin in the Longmoor road.
This was unfortunate as the bin was full of past apologies from E.H.D.C.!

For all the rights and wrongs of East Hants District Council, I fail to see how the binmen not emptying a bin shows that the council is in meltdown, I know we are all suffering from an increasing lack of faith in authority but really😂
The bins are emptied by Norse South East, not EHDC at all, a well established waste management firm, itself a subsidiary of Norse, which is itself wholly owned by Norfolk County Council, who presumably tendered, in these sensitive economic times, the best overall quote. So if anyone is failing it is Norfolk Council!
Our bin was emptied today as normal, after the issues of a few weeks ago with lorry breakdowns, but we always leave it out very visibly on the pavement on the morning of collection just to ensure they don't have to wander around searching for it, I've noticed here and there on my road some people don't leave it in a very easy to see spot and occasionally those ones are missed, if they're elderly or cannot physically move it themselves I believe you just have to let the council know where it is or of course ask a neighbour.
I believe the rule is you can put it on the pavement collection day and must move it back in same day after it's emptied or it's considered a hazard.

EHDC have used our council tax payers money to decide which business is awarded the contract. EHDC are responsible for ensuring we have a good enough service for our council tax that is why we ring EHDC not Norse. EHDC also decided to buy a lot of commercial properties with our money - this idea has not made the expected profits for them perhaps that is why they are having problems there. Perhaps the portfolio holder councillor for refuse in our area should try harder to improve the service for us, as he is up for re election in May.

Local - a very sensible and well balanced post putting things in proportion. Our bin was emptied as well.
