The Matildas v Lionesses World Cup
- paul (14th Aug 2023  17:44:46)

Hi,
Any predictions for England's game? Wednesday 11am U.K. time.
I think a draw, and the Lionesses win through to the final on penalties..

Nope - Aussies will get it I think. We weren't very convincing in the quarters and they live to pummel the Pims!!

I think women's football is trying to emulate men's football too much. Last year we saw a player taking her top off, (I remember a few years ago a football commentator losing his job for making comments about female footballers taking their tops off) and last week we saw a player deliberately stamping on a member of the other team.
It might be what today's audience want to see but I certainly don't. Won't be watching, far better things to do.

Problem with our lot is that they believe their own hype and are not nearly as good as they think they are.

So much for getting behind our sports teams. Other countries support their teams come what may why is it we put ours down, I think we are going to win handsomely go into the final and win that and make you doubters eat your words. As for the cricket we had a moral victory if the rain had stayed away we would have won the ashes back. We have some fantastic sports men and women so let’s support them.

Well written Sports Fanatic ~ you can't take the comments on this topic with any credulity, and Gilly thinks the Australians are playing a misspelt drink ~ he wouldn't publish my Viz related joke either !!

Come on England !!

Sports fanatics comment "As for the cricket we had a moral victory if the rain had stayed away we would have won the ashes back" sums up the problem with English sports fans. Like Dunkirk, we turn defeat into victory (even though we lost!!).

I for one am fed up with out highly paid sportsmen/women being praised for coming second so frequently.

As a young man I was quite a good athlete and was taught by my first coach " If you finish second you are a loser and people only remember winners".

Think they’ve done a fantastic job. Seeing them win the Euros last year in person was an experience I’ll not forget. Think they are also inspiring to young girls and boys. I wish them all the luck and whatever tomorrow’s result, have enjoyed watching them play these last few weeks. Go Lionesses!

Hi,
As in all sports activity is all about confidence, winning in a tournament play breeds winning mentality. England women never give up, even if losing for a short time. Australia have pressure of the home crowd, and the semi-final event. Lionesses will win..."it's coming home"

- C (16th Aug 2023  12:55:48)

Well just look at that. We are in the final! To all you disbelievers, happy you were proven wrong!

Shows what I know! Fantastic from the Lionesses

Well I’m happy . Now for the final here we go .

Gilly ~ I forgive you, but in the words of Bart Simpson

" Eat My Shorts " !

Come on England, and even if we don't win the final, what a fantastic achievement and an inspiration to all youngsters who might want to enter the game..

Re: The Matildas v Lionesses World Cup
- dave (16th Aug 2023  17:16:23)

Once again, this time Salty looking to big up failure " if we don't win the final, what a fantastic achievement". This is the problem with UK sports, gallant losers! Far more inspirational if we win!

- paul (16th Aug 2023  17:37:36)

Hi,
Congratulations to the Lionesses great win today in Australia!

England have proved in tournament play that starting slowly, building up momentum, and not peaking to soon. This is the way to win the World Cup.

Re: The Matildas v Lionesses World Cup
- Inspired (16th Aug 2023  21:15:32)

Come on Dave don’t be so negative they are playing their hearts out for England good on them wonderful job so far . Never been in a World Cup final before so let’s cheer them on if they don’t win it I’m sure they will give everything so don’t run them down if they do win which I’m sure they will it will be fantastic. When at school many years ago used to do all sports good at some not so good at others got as far as all Hampshire finals in athletics but that was it but felt very proud of my efforts that’s what it’s all about giving your all .

Re: The Matildas v Lionesses World Cup
- dave (17th Aug 2023  12:24:58)

@inspired. These are not school girls, they are highly paid professional sportswomen. I wish them the best of luck and hope they win but if they don't, that means they lost which at this level is what matters

Dave with the small " d "

Check your facts -

Sam Kerr - Chelsea and Australia earns £ 400.000 a year

Kevin De Bruyne - Manchester City and Belgium earns
£ 20.000.000 a year.( yes twenty million )

Hi,
Hope the Government allows pubs to open at 10am Sunday.
Let the English fans support, and celebrate (hopefully), their team in style and history!

Hear hear, BD and Big Ron. I've always felt we should all stick to what we're good at.

Last two posts are depressing. I suppose it's to be expected that anonymous, cowardly bigots will come out with drivel like this. Perhaps jealous of the attention the women's team have been getting.
