Catalytic Converter Thefts
- Lara (31st Aug 2023  18:36:11)

Hi all , a relative who lives in liphook had their Catalytic converter from underneath their car stolen. She is in her late 70’s and I live in London. We have persued all normal avenues and as of now no result.I was hoping if any one local could possibly help with advice please.
Obviously this type of crime is for monetary gain, however where would they sell these catalytic converter’s or do they get shipped abroard ? or possibly do they get sold to others missing them to? Should I search the local eBay listings ? I have heard from the neighbours that it is a frequent crime in the village.
Thank you

Sorry to hear you, but you join a very long and growing list.

Don't quote me, but I don't think they sell the catalytic things on so no point looking on ebay, all they want is the rare precious metals inside, mined by kids deep in Africa, to assuage our western guilt complex.

Sadly the problem lies with the fact these things were an afterthought, bolted onto the bottom of the exhaust, they are dead easy to steal, some cars virtually give them away, they are worth a fair bit to a junkie, perhaps will buy several fixes, and they are going like hotcakes all over the country. You are not alone. Hybrid cars are the worst.

With electric cars it won't be a problem, but they'll probably take the batteries which will cost about 10k to replace. Oh and electric cars are a con too, they will cause enough headaches of their own!
